Ron Moody (1924 – 2015)
With an extensive career, Ron Moody is known as one of the great British character actors of his generation.
For his acclaimed performance as Fagin in the 1968 film Oliver!,he received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor (Musical/Comedy), the Best Actor award at the 6th Moscow International Film Festival and an Academy Award nomination. He created the role in the original West End production in 1960 and later on Broadway in 1984. “Fate destined me to play Fagin. It was the part of a lifetime”, he said.
Moody also appeared in children's television productions, including Into the Labyrinth (1981) and the voice of Badger and Toad in the TV Adaptation of The Animals of Farthing Wood(1993-1995). Ron often said his one regret was turning down a chance to play one of the incarnations of The Doctor in Doctor Who.
He enjoyed bachelor life until meeting Therese Blackbourn and marrying her in 1985. He died on 11 June 2015.
