Robin Williams (1951 -- 2014)

Robin Williams was born on 21 July 1951 in Chicago, Illinois. He joined his high school drama club and after leaving was accepted into the Julliard School in New York.

After appearances on the stand up comedy circuit his breakthrough came in the American TV series Mork & Mindy (1982 ) playing an Alien who comes to Earth to observe its people.

His comedic talent was clear to see in his roles in the classic family films;  Hook (1991), Aladdin (1992) , Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), Jumanji (1995), Jack (1996), Night at the Museum (2006). Along with his comedic performances came more nuanced pieces which included Good Morning, Vietnam (1987), Dead Poets Society (1989), Fisher King (1991) and Good Will Hunting (1997) for which he won an Oscar for best supporting actor.

His versatility saw him receive several Oscar nominations.

Robin Williams died on 11 August 2014.
