James Horner (1953 – 2015)

The film composer James Horner tragically died in a plane crash on 22 June 2015.

Horner was born on 14 August 1953 in Los Angeles.

Starting music very early on in life, Horner learned piano from the age of five. He pursued his studies in music, achieving a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and PhD whilst scoring music for his friend’s student films on the side.

Hi first step into the big time came in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982). This led him to work   with some of the greatest directors in film history, including Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Oliver Stone, Ron Howard and George Lucas.

His career saw him work on more than 75 films including Patriot Games (1992), Legends of the Fall (1994), Braveheart (1995), Apollo 13 (1995),Courage Under Fire (1996), A Beautiful Mind (2001) and Avatar (2009).His score for Titanic (1997) is reportedly the biggest-selling orchestral soundtrack in history.

He leaves a wife and two children.
