George Cole (1925 -- 2015)

The British actor George Edward Cole OBE died on 5th August 2015 at the age of 90.

He was born in Tooting, London on April 22, 1925 and enjoyed a 60 year career working across both TV and film productions.

Cole began acting in the early 1940s and instantly gained recognition with a role in The Demi-Paradise (1943) with Lawrence Olivier and following that was offered a bit part in Olivier's star-studded Henry V (1944).

More film roles followed as he played Flash Harry in four of the St Trinian's films between 1954-66, starred opposite Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton inCleopatra (1963), and the gothic horror The Vampire Lovers (1970).

It was his long running role as Arthur Daley, a self-professed entrepreneur in ITV’s Minder (1979-1994), that brought him to the attention of younger audiences and secured him as a household name. Cole then starred in many other notable TV roles such as Dad (1997- 1999), Station Jim (2001), Bodily Harm (2002) and New Tricks (2007).

He leaves his wife and children.
